Comparing the Aeromexico and Volaris Baggage Policies

AeroMexico Airlines
Volaris Airlines
Aeromexico and Volaris are two airlines of Mexico, and the difference ends rights there. While the former is a full service legacy carrier, the latter is an ultra low cost carrier which does not offer any frills for free. The success story of low cost carriers worldwide has been repeated with Volaris as well. Let us examine one of the most fundamental policies of these airlines- The Baggage Policy.
Aeromexico provides 3 cabin fare types- Main Cabin and Clase Premier on all its routes and, an additional basic fare ticket fare is available for its domestic routes, and on routes between Mexico and Europe. Volaris offers three fares as well and their names go as Vuela Basic, Vuela Classic and Vuela Plus.
Volaris baggage allowance for check in luggage does not exist for Economy class tickets and for the Regular fare tickets under Vuela Classic and Plus fares, the allowance is limited to 1 check in bag of 25 kg and 62 inches linear dimensions. What is interesting to note is that the airline offers 2 kgs more in one check in bag than what the other vast majority of airlines offer. So, this is a boon for travelers using Volaris flights.
On the other side, the Aeromexico baggage allowance for check-in baggage is not free for Base Fare tickets. However, for domestic route of Mexico and to Europe, the allowance is of 1 check in bag of 25 kg for the Main Cabin level. For Asia and Brazil routes, the airline is even more generous as it offers 2 bags of 23 kg each free for each passenger. However, for the US and Canada markets, there is no free allowance and even the first check in bags have to be paid for. The AeroMexico baggage allowance details depend on route and class of service.
What is interesting to note is that Volaris has the baggage structure based on, among other parameters, the time of buying the baggage. This is to mean that the fares will differ if baggage is bought at the airport, at the time of booking the tickets or anytime before the flight but after the tickets have been booked. AeroMexico does not have this in its fee structure.
These are essentially the key differences in the basic structure of their fees policies with respect to luggage.
